My name is Leyna Johnson Nguyen, I am a licensed clinical social worker in the state of New York. I knew I wanted to work as a helping professional since I was in grade school. Mental Health therapy became my goal after personally dealing with anxiety and depression. I completed my Psychology BA from SUNY Geneseo. Right as I was ready to apply to graduate school, my best friend passed with issues related to alcohol use. This fueled my interest in addiction and its impact on families.
I completed my certificate in Substance Abuse Counselling in 2016 and worked in the field while pursuing my Master in Social Work degree from University of Buffalo. After graduation, I worked at a community mental health clinic for 5 years before starting my private practice.Â
My work is grounded in the principles of Trauma-Informed Care (TIC). This means our sessions always prioritize safety, trust, and collaboration. I am committed to creating a space where you feel seen, respected, and empowered to set the pace of your own healing.
While my foundation is empathy, my approach can also be structured. We will collaboratively choose evidence-based therapies like EMDR for processing past traumas, Inference-Based CBT (I-CBT) specifically for OCD, and elements of DBT and Schema Therapy to help you regulate intense emotions and break long-standing patterns.
